Over recent years, a better understanding of bacterial growth, metabolism, and virulence has offered several potential targets for nonantibiotic antimicrobial therapies. These approaches have several potential advantages: they expand the repertoire of bacterial targets, they preserve the host's endogenous microbiome, and they exert less selective pressure for the development of antibiotic resistance relative to current antibiotics. This study will review the more recent developments of antivirulence and nonantibiotic strategies in the field of lung infections.
